DEVDAS

Original Story: Sarat Chandra Chatterjee
Translation and Playwright: Subrata Das.

More than 100 years ago, a visionary writer from India’s renaissance period, Sarat Chandra Chatterjee, had a very progressive view about women, as reflected in many of the characters in his writings, including the character Paru in the Bengali novel Devdas, India’s most well-known romantic tragedy. SETU staged multiple shows of Devdas in 2019, including one in invited show in New York. The next act is a scene from an English play of Devdas.
