Birth of the Boson
Playwright: Prof. Hasan Padamsee, Cornell University (Retd.)
Academy of Creative Arts, Burlington, MA
Fri, Oct 4 at 7pm (Cast BOSON), Sat, Oct 5 at 1pm (Cast FERMION)
One of the most significant scientific events of the past century is the discovery of the subatomic particle Boson, the predecessor of the so called "God particle". The genius of a young Indian scientist, Satyen Bose, after whom the particle Boson was named, reshaped the study of modern physics. His published work authored with Albert Einstein exactly 100 years ago culminated in Bose-Einstein Statistics that led the foundation but Bose's name remained unnoticed until very recently.
SETU's play reading in ENGLISH with TWO DOZEN ACTORS in a double cast, BOSON & FERMION, explores the early life and struggle of Bose, his marriage and journey from Bengal (India) to Berlin where he met Einstein and Madame Curie in Paris.
An online live panel discussion with the playwright and Bose's grandson Falguni Sarkar will be conducted by Gautam & Jayanti Bandyopadhyay. Live music by Anirban Dasgupta, son of late Padmabhusan and Pt. Buddhadev Dasgupta whose music Bose was very fond of, will accompany the reading. Event concept, casting, and direction are by Subrata Das.
Each show is about 2 hrs and 30 mins, including a short 30 mins intermission. Admission is FREE but the attendees must register at www.setu.us. We only have a limited number of seats available.
